Seven owls, including two adults and five owlets, have been rescued from a high-rise residential complex in Greater Noida West following complaints from residents about repeated encounters with the birds. The owls were rescued from a shaft in Tower 5 of La Residentia by the district forest department.
According to the Times of India report, residents claimed that the owls had swooped down in parking areas, lobbies and open spaces, with several people reportedly injured during the incidents. Wildlife experts noted that owls generally avoid humans but can become defensive when protecting nests or young birds.
The rescue operation was carried out on September 14 by forest officials and a veterinary doctor. The birds were subsequently kept under observation and are expected to be relocated to the Surajpur Bird Sanctuary, a protected wetland environment in Greater Noida, after being cleared for release.
The incident has also brought attention to the impact of rapid urbanisation and construction on natural habitats. Environmentalists have highlighted the importance of preserving trees, nesting areas and green spaces as residential development expands across Greater Noida.
